3Bridge Records welcomes Begoña back in 2021 for the release of ‘Figure and Form’, her followup to 2019’s Kaleidoscope EP. Begoña is one half of New York’s Sleepy & Boo, the 3Bridge regulars who have been on a creative tear with a number of releases on international labels recently and forthcoming, including Transmit, Miles from Mars, Mavic, Techniche and more. This EP once again impresses as a showcase for her solo work, featuring four tracks of dubbed-out dance floor grooves, merging melodic overtones with hypnotic, techno-styled rhythms.
‘Figure’ gets the EP started on an energetic and uplifting note, propelled by its lush chord progressions, echoing percussive crashes, and building, ethereal leads. This track is a definite crowd-pleaser that is destined for some positive dance floor memories. ‘Form’ comes next, and this track delves into melodic, groovy house territory, with upfront percussion, earthy low-end, big claps, and cavernous atmospheres. The third track ‘Outline’ dips deep into a dub direction, with delayed leads weaving in and out of the mix. Filtered chord stabs pick up the energy towards the end, with everything cascading into a meaningful crescendo. Closing things out is ‘Aspect’, which applies a more abstract approach to its sound, focusing on sparse percussion and mesmerizing leads and arpeggios. The finale is a pensive and haunting piano solo that wraps up this excellent EP.
Begoña’s sound has evolved and expanded since she debuted on 3Bridge Elements with her downtempo and Balearic productions. This fall, she made her debut on Spain’s Sacudan Records with the well-received Explorations EP. We’re excited to present ‘Figure and Form’ as the latest step forward in her sound.
