2016 has been a banner year for New York producers Sleepy & Boo, with the duo releasing quite a bit of quality music. This is their 4th EP out this year on 3Bridge, and they have continuously impressed the label with solid dance floor tracks featuring a variety of styles and sounds. The ‘Thought Forms EP’ is no exception, and it’s perfect for your autumn DJ sets.
Opener ‘Thought Form’ is a great slice of house that takes the melodies deep and lush, crafting an irresistible, enveloping warmth that sets the stage for this accomplished EP. A thick kick drum that’s backed by crisp hi-hats and concordant dubbed patterns are the main drivers here, while wide tuneful pads cast a musical net that weaves in and out of focus. A moody chord progression ties all of this together, creating an uplifting atmosphere.
‘The Imaginary Past’ brings the clouds in a little bit, heading things down a darker direction. Large layers of arpeggios build over the course of the track, with haunting atmospheres descending throughout. This track puts the percussion up front, with filtered drums crunching and clicking in the background – including a vintage breakbeat loop. This is a perfect selection for those late night sets.
‘Process’ follows some of the same ideals as the previous track with catchy rhythms floating over echoing voices, soft stabs, and tough drums.
